Although I am relatively new to the world of multisport, I have been an endurance athlete since I was a child. I grew up being in many track clubs, and competing on scholarship in the NCAA as a cross country runner, during which time I competed in events ranging from the 1500m on track to half marathons on road.
Following University where I studied in Hawaii for 4 years (and yes I lived by the beach and surf a LOT) I decided to quit running and focus on my career. The reason I stopped running was that I was just tired of all the intense competition, and found it difficult to balance training and work.
Over the next few years I didn’t do any endurance training, and worked long hours in my new career where I still work as a financial analyst for Ford. After 3 years with relatively little training or racing I got bored and bought a road bike, which brought a whole new level of fun to endurance sports. I quickly became addicted to cycling and decided to try a triathlon, thinking I could still run like I used to. I quickly found out I was wrong and running off the bike was extremely difficult. Following this race I joined a triathlon club where I have been training ever since, finding love for a whole new sport! As most other amateur triathletes do, I still struggle every day to try and balance my career with my training.
Since finding my love for duathlons and triathlons, I’ve been lucky enough to have a wife who shares the same love for the sport as I do. This makes putting in the long training hours much more tolerable and has lead to having competed in many new events ranging from sprint tri’s, to full IM’s, and duathlon worlds in Spain. On top of this I’ve raced Barrelman a few times and don’t plan on stopping as to this day it’s my favourite course, especially for a weak swimmer like myself!
I’m very excited to be on the Barrelman Ambassador team as it will provide a platform to hopefully provide support to all other triathletes looking for a new challenge!
I am very excited for the upcoming Barrelman 2018 and would love to hear from you if you have any questions about this amazing race!
