I’m fairly new to Canada. I’ve only been here for six years now. I come from South Africa and I was used to training all year round in very fair conditions. It is really tough training in the Canadian winters so BarrelMan is at the perfect time of the year, giving us many great weather months to train.
I am a forty two year old husband and father of two children. A fifteen year old son and an eleven year old daughter. My wife is an ultra marathon runner and between us, well we tag team the training and have learned how to fit all the training into our already busy lives. We are all very supportive of each other.
I got into triathlons late in my life. Taking on a 70.3 race as a challenge among friends in 2012. I’ve been cycling for many years and was a competitive swimmer in school. For me, running is a necessary evil. I had a dream of one day doing a Full Iron Man race and achieved that goal last year.
I have done the BarrelMan since it’s inception and have committed myself to do it for as long as the race is on. The venue is what grabbed my attention at first. From there the race organization and friendly atmosphere have had me coming back. I have since gotten my wife and friends interested in the race for this year. I look forward to training with them.
I am really excited to have been chosen as an ambassador for the BarrelMan. I intend to have fun and help show others that anything is possible.
