I am a 44, soon to be 45 year old triathlete who has been doing triathlons regularly since late 2006. I progressed up through the sport by first doing a year of mostly Sprints and Olympic Distance races before trying my first 70.3 distance race in 2008 and my first full distance race in 2011.
I have a passion for being outdoors all year long. Even in the winter, I keep busy with cross country skiing whenever I can, and am active in helping coach my children’s hockey teams on a regular basis.
I’ve recently switched gears in my professional life after more than 13 years in the hedge fund administration industry. At my old job, I used to bike to work regularly and in over 13 years of going to work in the Kitchener/Waterloo area, I managed to bike to work over 1,000 times totaling more than 56,000 kms. Needless to say, the cycling portion of a triathlon is usually where I perform the best.
At home, I have two active boys aged 10 and 14, and a very supporting wife who have allowed me to get the training in that I need to have some of the success in the sport that I have had, including back to back overall podium finishes at the Barrelman Triathlon in 2016 and 2017.
The Barrelman Triathlon is a fantastic race and I’m proud to be acting as an ambassador for the 2018 edition which promises to be the best year yet, especially given the bike course change which will make a great course even better. I can’t wait for September!
