Hi everyone! I’m super excited to be part of the ambassador team for Barrelman this year! This race has always held a special place in my heart, as it was my first foray into the middle-distance triathlon world. In June of 2015, I had a two month break between my first and second year of nursing school, and decided that I wanted to try something new to challenge myself. I had been a member of the University of Western Ontario triathlon club during my undergraduate degree, but had never bitten the bullet and done a triathlon. The fear of the unknown had been holding me back: I had never been able to wrap my head around the logistics of swimming, then getting on a bike in wet clothes, and then running after all that. With the help of a couple of YouTube videos and some encouraging friends, I decided it was now or never! The team at MultiSport Canada was very supportive in answering my many (many) questions before the race, which really helped to calm some of those “what the heck am I doing?!” thoughts. 3 months later, I crossed the line at the 2015 Barrelman race, and haven’t looked back. Since then, I have completed 4 70.3 distance races and 2 middle-distance Aquabike races. This year, I will be representing Canada at the MultiSport World Championships in Aquabike and look forward to returning to Barrelman this year. I look forward to sharing my love for this race and the MultiSport Canada team with each and every one of you.
When I’m not doing triathlon, I am a staff nurse at a paediatric rehabilitation hospital in Toronto, and love cooking, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors.
