I am thrilled to be selected as an ambassador for Barrelman 2020! This is one of my favorite multisport races! I started doing triathlons in 2005 when I was 45! Age is not a barrier to competing in multisport events. I have raced all distances of triathlons including finishing 3 Ironman races, Chattanooga, 2014, Maryland, 2015, and Louisville, 2018.
In 2017, I did the complete triathlon at Barrelman. The swim is fantastic! Being able to swim in the Welland Canal is like swimming in an endless pool with only a few turns! It is so smooth! There is no current to work against! The bike ride is almost completely flat and getting to ride next to Lake Erie and the Niagara River are some of the most beautiful parts of this course! The run is a challenging one with several hills. The heat continues to be a factor in this race so I hope someday to do the run at a better pace than I did in 2017. I have also competed in the 2018 and 2019 Swim/Bike races at Barrelman, and earned 2nd place in my age group in 2019!
I am currently president of the Steel Valley Triathlon Club located in the Youngstown, Ohio area. We are a club of about 80 athletes ranging in age from 18-68. Our club has had many members race at Barrelman and I look forward to having many SVTC racers alongside or in front of me this year.
As an ambassador, I will be available to answer questions about the course, the point-to-point transitions or any other race related questions. Look for me when you check in!
My biggest supporter and husband, Marty, along with my sister, Jeanne and her husband, Geoff, will all be at Barrelman working check-in and helping you along as you prepare for race day!
