I have always enjoying being physically active, but my job as a full time Supervisor of Gifted Programs kept me from participating in any organized sports. In the fall of 2004, through a job change, I was relocated close to the local YMCA, so I joined and started swimming. A class was offered in January of 2005 for people interested in triathlons. I was 45 and thought I might be crazy, but I joined the class. I’ve always believed in pushing myself and setting goals. This class became a close knit group of athletes and evolved into the Steel Valley Triathlon Club, of which I am a founding member. Triathlon has become a passion for me! My husband, Marty, supports me as the best Sherpa and a fabulous cook! He is a retired firefighter and has learned how to be patient and wait.
Since 2005, I have competed every year. I did sprint distance triathlons for about 5 years before I was brave enough to participate in Olympic and Half distances. I have done 2 full marathons, multiple half marathons, and many shorter distance running races along with duathlons, aqua bikes, relay triathlons, and several half ironman races. I have also completed 2 full ironman races, Ironman Chattanooga, 2014 and Ironman Maryland, 2015. I have run in races in 12 states and 3 countries.
Last year when Rev3 partnered with Barrelman and MultiSport Canada, I was extremely excited to participate. When I finished Barrelman Half I became an International Triathlete! Barrelman was well organized. The swim venue is the best ever! The bike course is well marked and so exciting as you approach the falls. The run passes the falls twice! It was so beautiful! But… it was extremely hot and my run suffered immensely. I really wanted to do this race again.
Being an Ambassador for Niagara Falls Barrelman makes it even more exciting for me! I am looking forward to sharing my stories about training and racing. I hope to influence others from Northeastern Ohio to make the short drive to become an international triathlete with me!
